The Cooltec EQP-1 Program Equalizer Plug-In is created to provide you with a rare piece of American Music History. This is a world-class, world-famous, original “Cooltec” designed as the very first in the “EQP” line, using the original transformers and vacuum tubes. It uses vacuum tubes to provide the proper gain staging and an inductor for the amazing input frequency processing.

The Cooltec EQP-1 Program Equalizer Plug-In is the result of more than 220 Hours of research, testing, recording, editing, creation of graphics, design, and beta testing. The result is the world's most accurate digital representation of one of the most defining and rare vintage equalizers in the history of recording.

The highest quality cables, monitoring, and D/A-A/D converters were used to translate the sonic qualities of this priceless device into the Acqua software technology. Every volume change, gain change, frequency change is tested and edited and compared to the original device. The result is a virtually indistinguishable digital replication of this landmark recording device.

The Cooltec EQP-1 is recorded at 96kHz and can be accurately translated to any frequency desired through a mastering-grade rate conversion. The thinking behind this process is to provide the full quality of the analog behavior, which means placing all emphasis on quality over cpu resources. The process is extremely efficient and optimized to be used on current computer technology with a forward thinking to the future of more powerful systems, but this will be a more cpu-intensive device than your typical software. Consider the value in having even one instance of the original EQP-1 in your hardware rack and choose to see the true value in having the best sound that technology has to offer.

Controls

Input Gain Input Gain: The Input Gain control sets the level at the input of the plugin. The range is from -∞ dB to +6 dB.
Output Gain: The Output Gain control sets the level at the output of the plugin. The range is from -∞ dB to +6 dB. Output Gain
Drive Control Drive Control: The “Drive” control is a unique feature not found in similar products from others brands that comes from Acustica Audio VVKT proprietary technology and sampling aproach.
It allows you to control the amount of harmonic distortion that is coming from the analog hardware. The “Input” control acts as the analog signal chain of the device, where reducing the volume also reduces the harmonic distortion in accordance. The “Drive” function allows independent control of this harmonic content, so that the input level can be left alone while making adjustments to the harmonics. Reducing the harmonics leads to a cleaner signal with an already clean device. Increasing the harmonics should be done with moderation. We recommend only increasing the “Drive” by a few decibels at the most. If you wish to use the Cooltec just for its coloration of sound and not for equalization, we recommend using the “Preamp” instance of the device, which contains more harmonic content and are edited at a slightly higher driven signal to make this aspect of the sound more readily accessible.
EQ In/Out: To the right of the 6 EQ Plug-Ins is an up/down switch labelled “EQ In/EQ Out”. Click this switch one time to bypass the signal chain. Click it a second time to engage the signal chain. The Preamp Plug-In labels this control “In/Out” so that it is not confused for any other function. The Preamp program allows the user to choose between two settings called “EQ On” and “EQ Off,” and these are not connected to the “In/Out” function which is designed to engage and bypass the units processing. Q-Width
Q-Width: five bottons allows you to select the Q shape. Clicking button 5 activates the widest “Q” shape and clicking button 1 activates the narrowest "Q" shape. This control is only availble in High Boost preset and High Boost/Cut preset.

High Attenuation
Fixed Frequency Shelf Cut Equalization in 1/2dB steps from 0dB to 11dB. Increasing the “Attenuation” control reduces the wide shelf high frequencies.

High Boost
High Bell Boost Equalization in 1/2dB steps from 0dB to 11dB.
Five "Q" Bandwidth options.
Frequencies for High Boost: 3kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz, 10kHz, and 12kHz (designated as KCS, meaning KiloCycles per Second).
The High Boost Plug-In has a “Q” Width” control. These 5 buttons control the width of the bell-shaped frequency.
Clicking button 1 activates the most narrow “Q” width. Clicking button 5 activates the widest “Q” shape.

High Boost/Cut
Simultaneous Boost and Cut on a single controller from 0dB to 11dB in 1dB steps.

Preamp EQ In/EQ Out
Dynamic Signal Path of the EQP-1 with program selection between EQ In and EQ Out.
Drive - warmth/harmonic distortion control.
Click the “EQ On” button to use the sound of the electronics of the Cooltec with the EQ set to 0dB and engaged in the signal path. Click the “EQ Off” button to use the sound of the electronics of the Cooltec with the EQ removed from the signal path.
